Today we got the train to college and started our day off with makeup artistry. We got to see a demonstration of the fantasy makeup, it was very interesting as we have never done anything like that before.
We went for lunch and afterwards we went back to the same class and were chosen to be models. It was very interesting to see what they could do and gave us good ideas for our competition in Cork when we come back from Glasgow. Once we had finished class we were met by Neill, who introduced us to the clients whose class we will be joining tomorrow for barbering. We are hoping that we will get shown some demonstrations during the class to see if there are new skills that we can learn and use in the future. We also have another fantasy hair class tomorrow, so we are hoping that we will be shown different methods to interpret more styles to make looks become more creative. -Vanessa

Today we had to find a suitable bus that will get us to college on time everyday for the next two weeks. Our first class today was aromatherapy so we got a full body massage from the students and learned new ways that they perform their massage routine and new techniques. We also learned about the different types of oils they use on different clients depending on what kind of treatment they want. We were then supposed to have makeup classes for the rest of the day but there was a bit of a confusion so the four of us did treatments on each other instead and we will participate in the class next week. We also went to a Steiner meeting and learned more about all the cruise ships and what life would be like working on one of the ships for 9 months.
-Holly Today we got to see the college today which were all amazed by its huge and very modern. We were shown around the beauty section of the college which is much bigger than GTI. We got to meet some of our class mates and teachers which were all really lovely and very welcoming we got to do treatments we haven’t done before. We are very excited to start our classes properly tomorrow. We did a patch test for eyelash extensions so we got to see how it was done and when we start the lash course next Monday we will know exactly what to do! we were also showed different brow treatments like threading and waxing which we all enjoyed.
They have a reception specifically for hair and beauty when they have the open salons on Thursday, there’s a nail bar and 5 treatment rooms for the beauty students. The facilities are really good we learned that the college supply the students with products and equipment which is kept in a stock room for them whereas in GTI we have our own products and equipment which we get to take home. We really enjoyed getting to do the lash extras we have not done that before and getting to chat to the girls in the course. -Nikki We started off our morning getting the bus to NCLanarkshire in Motherwell to get an introduction in the college about what we will be doing and where we would be going. There we met the head of the three colleges who accompanied us to the Coatbridge college. Here we met with all of the teachers who help run the salon and the receptionists who brought us around the college helping us to get settled. After lunch we were introduced to the third year students and they went through their daily tasks in college on a day by day basis. Today it was personalised treatments which was very interesting to learn about, as it’s not something which we would do very often in GTI.
During this class we were introduced to equipment which we had never seen or used before which allowed us to analyse the scalp and hair follicles in great detail using a camera. We also were able to watch clients who had hair loss get treatments using laser to stimulate their hair growth, we talked to the clients about their experiences in the college and they explained how the equipment and the treatments help to enhance their confidence just from using this new technology. We were invited to come back into the class to help participate in the treatments next week. Tomorrow we are going doing makeup artistry which we are both looking forward to doing as it is something completely different to what we have ever done and it is not something we have done before so it will be nice to learn something new, which can be used when we go back to GTI. - Megan & Vanessa We all had a lie in this morning as we were all recked after all the traveling. We then all met at reception at 12pm and went to the bus station and train station to sort out which bus/train and what time we take on Tuesday for our first day in new college Lanarkshire. After we figured out our transport for the next few weeks we then went looking around a few shops, we got a taxi to Sliver burn shopping center and when we got there we first went to Frankie & Bennys for lunch after we then did some shopping. After all the shopping we got a taxi back to the loft apartments to relax and get ready for our induction meeting tomorrow in new college lanarkshire. We are all exited to meet our mentor and to see what the college looks like. We are extremely exited to learn new skills such as, we get to do acrylic nails and eyebrow enhancement which sounds so interesting. So far everyone in Glasgow have been so nice and helpful towards us at times we had difficulty understanding their accents but I’m sure we will get used to it. The apartments are so amazing and in such a perfect spot, we are all starting to feel at home in them. We hope to do more exploring in the next few days as we have all fallen in love with the city.
-Niamh We arrived at the loft apartments and when we stepped into the room we were surprised at the size of the apartment and how well equipped it was. We teamed up with the beauty students and tried to find our way around Glasgow city and locate activities, tours and museums we can do in our spare time. Today we got ourselves settled, and organised a group trip into the city to try find the best way to get to college everyday. We are looking forward to going to the college tomorrow and seeing where we will be based for the next three weeks. We hope we will get an insight into what we will be doing day by day. We are looking forward to trying fantasy hair and makeup as we haven’t done it before and looking forward to a new challenge.
-Vanessa Our 4 Beauty & 2 Hair students have set off on their Erasmus+ work placement to Glasgow The placements will see these students spend 3 weeks working in placements related to their vocational area. #GTIGalway #Erasmus #EUandMe#FutureSuccess #GRETB #Leargas
